Jonathan Friedlander is an associate at Flagship Pioneering. At Flagship, Jonathan conducts explorations to discover unexplored biological mechanisms and new biotechnologies. As part of a team of entrepreneurial scientists, he develops the science, intellectual property and business strategy that form the foundation of the firm’s breakthrough startups.
Jonathan brings together expertise in agriculture, life sciences and business. Prior to pursuing an M.B.A. at the Harvard Business School and joining Flagship, he served as a scientist and technical business develop manager at Total New Energies, a startup specializing in R&D of high-productivity biocatalysts for biofuels and specialty chemicals. Jonathan has held research assistant positions at Columbia University and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France, conducting research into stem cells and tissue morphogenesis. He is a 2015 graduate of Flagship Pioneering’s Fellows Program.
Jonathan holds a B.S. in agricultural engineering from AgroParisTech, the Paris Institute of Technology for Life, Food, and Environmental Sciences. He received an M.Sc. in living systems at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France and a Ph.D. in cellular development and biology at the University of Cambridge’s Darwin College. Jonathan has also earned an M.B.A from Harvard Business School.
