Black Duck Names Jukka Alanen VP of Business Development and Corporate Strategy
BURLINGTON, MA - November 24, 2015 – Black Duck Software, a global leader in automated solutions for securing and managing open source software, today announced the appointment of Jukka Alanen as its Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Strategy.
“Partnerships and alliances are critical to Black Duck’s strategy to advance our industry leadership and execute our growth plans. Jukka has been highly successful in driving business growth and strategic expansion by building, scaling and leading world-class business development for both early-stage startups and Fortune 500 corporations,” said Black Duck CEO Lou Shipley.
Alanen joins Black Duck from security firm Arxan Technologies where he was Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Strategy and played a key role in the company’s rapid growth from a small start-up to number one in application protection. Previously, Alanen was Vice President of Business Development and Alliances for Symantec, and held leadership roles spanning strategy, mergers and acquisitions and portfolio product management. Before Symantec, he was a top management consultant with McKinsey & Company for six years, leading growth, product and go-to-market strategy, as well as M&A initiatives for high-tech companies. Alanen has led the development of hundreds of partnerships – strategic alliances, OEM, licensing, reselling, channels, joint solution development, technology integration, co-marketing and ecosystem programs. He has also led successful expansion into new markets and product categories, both organically and through acquisitions. "Black Duck has a tremendous opportunity across cloud, enterprise IT, mobile and Internet of Things to help organizations embrace open source software with trust and confidence. I look forward to working with Black Duck and other industry leaders to address customers’ growing needs for open source security and management with state-of-the-art solutions," said Alanen. Shipley said that Alanen will build and lead Black Duck’s partnerships and alliances, including the recently announced collaboration with Red Hat. In late October, Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, and Black Duck announced a collaboration to establish a secure and trusted model for containerized application delivery. This validation is a major step forward in enabling enterprise-ready application containers, and builds upon the strengths of each company – Red Hat’s leadership in container technologies and solutions, including its platform and certification strategy, and Black Duck’s unique position as the provider of the most comprehensive identification and earliest notification technologies of open source vulnerabilities.
