Oasys Water’s Global Momentum Continues with Asia-Pacific Expansion and Deployment of its Forward Osmosis Systems
Water Treatment and Desalination Innovator Completes First Commercial Year Expanding its International Reach
Boston – Jan. 13, 2015 – Oasys Water, a world leader in innovative solutions for water treatment and desalination, today unveiled significant technology and corporate milestones achieved in 2014 that set the stage for continued growth and expansion throughout 2015. Last year marked the company’s first commercial year for its Membrane Brine Concentrator (MBC) technology which has multiple applications in industrial markets around the globe, including the Asia-Pacific region where Oasys has been awarded new projects and opened international offices.
Most recently, Oasys continued expansion of its global sales force opening an office in Sydney, Australia to support business development in the Asia-Pacific region. The Sydney office is positioned to increase Oasys’ role supporting Australia’s abundant natural resources and will serve as a regional anchor for growth throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The opening of an Australian office came just months after Oasys’ project win accelerating commercialization of Forward Osmosis in the power industry. In September, it was announced that the Changxing Power Plant, located in China’s northern Zhejiang province, will use Oasys’ patented technology to treat the coal-fired power plant’s wastewater from flue gas desulfurization (FGD). This project marks the world’s first commercial application of Forward Osmosis based Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), an innovative desalination method that Oasys Water has pioneered.
“Expanding our international reach by deploying our technology in China and opening an Australian office were crucial steps in our push towards continued global growth, allowing us to better support the unique water treatment needs of countries in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Jim Matheson, president and CEO of Oasys Water. “While we have reached important milestones that underscore the successful commercialization of our forward osmosis technology, we are keenly focused on delivering and commissioning these projects to showcase our strength as a global technology provider and further validate our innovative technology as water scarcity concerns evolve across the globe.”
To ensure successful global deployments, Oasys continued expanding its team by more than 50 percent for the second straight year. Adding depth to the execution and manufacturing side of the business, Oasys recently appointed industry veteran Angelo Santamaria as vice president of global manufacturing operations. Santamaria joins Oasys with over 20 years experience leading operations and technology development with a focus in Asia. He will be responsible for creating and executing the global manufacturing and supply chain strategy to achieve Oasys’ strategic objectives and continued business growth.
In addition to key international deployments and expansion, Oasys was honored with several major industry awards in 2014 including global recognition for their innovative technology. In April, the company was proudly named Water Technology Company of the Year by Global Water Intelligence and one of Bloomberg New Energy Finances’ New Energy Pioneers. Oasys was also named to the 2014 Global CleanTech 100 and recognized locally by the Boston Business Journal.
Throughout 2015, Oasys expects to continue expanding both its team and geographic footprint as water scarcity becomes a major focus worldwide from Latin America to the Middle East. In the coming months, Oasys will commission major full-scale water treatment plants across the globe and expand worldwide partnership network to bring its innovative technology to new markets. Oasys also remains committed to developing new technologies to treat the world’s most toxic waters and intends to launch new products later this year.
