Brad Coleman
Director, Flagship Pioneering Fellowship & Talent Development
Brad Coleman joined Flagship in 2022 as Director, Flagship Pioneering Fellowship & Talent Development. As Fellowship Director Brad works across Flagship and its portfolio companies to ensure that each Fellow experiences a robust introduction to Flagship, its people, and its unique process of venture creation. In that same spirit, Brad is also focused on supporting Flagship’s culture of continuous learning and professional development. These roles build on Brad’s career studying how the science of learning can inform effective, meaningful transfer of expertise, and the generation of new knowledge.
Prior to joining Flagship, Brad was the Director of the Curriculum Fellows Program at Harvard Medical School, a postdoctoral training program for basic scientists seeking careers in teaching, curriculum development, and higher education administration. Brad has also held Lecturer appointments at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In addition to introductory courses in basic science and public health, Brad has taught a variety of courses and workshops on the ways to apply evidence-based instructional practices to professional, clinical, and classroom-based teaching. Brad is the recipient of multiple teaching awards and has published and presented reports on a variety of teaching innovations.
Brad received his Ph.D. in biological sciences and public health from Harvard University. His graduate work demonstrated that epigenetic gene regulation is critical for multiple virulence processes in Plasmodium falciparum malaria. As a postdoc at Boston College, Brad identified a critical protein mediator of human cell invasion by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Brad received his undergraduate degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis.
