Gayathri Swaminath

Gayathri Swaminath joined Flagship Pioneering in 2023 as Vice President, Cardiovascular for Pioneering Medicines. She is responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams and collaborations between Pioneering Medicines, Flagship platform companies, and external partners for early discovery through early clinical development stage programs.

Gayathri has over 18 years of drug development experience spanning several therapeutic areas and modalities in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining Flagship, she was Senior Vice President, Drug Discovery at Juvena Therapeutics, working on age related chronic diseases. She served as Vice President for Research & Business Development at GreenfireBio, overseeing pre-clinical and early clinical development efforts for oncology programs. She was a Director in Cardiometabolic at Merck Research Laboratories, with previous leadership roles at Amgen. At Merck & Amgen, she led multidisciplinary teams and contributed to the development of drug candidates, including Verquvo for heart failure.

Gayathri has co-authored 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals, a book chapter, and holds several patents. She completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Hyderabad, India, her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University, and she also holds an MBA from Cornell University.
