John Damask
Vice President, Data & Systems Engineering
John Damask joined Flagship Pioneering in May 2019 as Vice President of Data & Systems Engineering. John brings over 20 years of experience delivering value to organizations of all sizes through software and informatics solutions. At Flagship, his responsibilities involve providing strategic leadership around the use of data and technology both within Flagship and across its portfolio. This includes cloud and scientific computing, architecture, engineering, data management, automated operations and governance.
Prior to joining Flagship, John spent eleven years with the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in various roles of increasing responsibility. As an informatics lead, he built global automated platforms for high-throughput labs that translated into savings of millions of dollars and decades of manual effort. His integrated data warehouses allowed for rapid, in silico explorations of diverse topics including chemical biology, proteomics, transcriptomics and proteogenomics. Most recently, John was NIBR’s Global Head of Cloud Computing and led the team responsible for all aspects of the corporate cloud platform.
Earlier in his career, John spent a decade running his own consulting practice, creating innovative software and data products across a variety of industries. As part of his early work in informatics he was awarded an NIH grant to develop a decision support system for proteomic researchers.
John has a B.A. in Musicology from New York University.
