Matt Abbinanti

Matt Abbinanti is the Director of Program Management for Pioneering Medicines. He is responsible for providing strategic and scientific insight to project teams and driving operational efforts to deliver novel therapeutics for patients across different platforms and modalities.

Matt has over seven years of industry experience as both a preclinical project lead and program manager in gene editing/gene therapy. Prior to joining Pioneering Medicines, he was a Sr. Program Manager at CRISPR Therapeutics where he managed the in vivo gene editing portfolio and was the Alliance Manager for several strategic collaborations. Previously, Matt was at BioAxone Biosciences where he held positions of increasing responsibility and was most recently Director of Research and Project Management. While there, he led the preclinical evaluation of several small-molecule kinase inhibitors for neurovascular diseases and neurotrauma; managed several academic collaborations; and published multiple publications and patents.

Matt received his B.S. in Biology from Allegheny College and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology and post-doctoral training from Cornell University. Matt’s thesis in the lab of Ron Harris-Warrick focused on electrophysiological changes in spinal cord neurons during postnatal development.
