Yih-En Andrew Ban
Senior Vice President, Head of Molecular Design & Generative Biology, Pioneering Intelligence

Yih-En Andrew Ban joined Flagship Pioneering in 2024 as Senior Vice President, Head of Molecular Design & Generative Biology for Pioneering Intelligence. At Flagship, Andrew provides strategic leadership to establish within Pioneering Intelligence a center of excellence for biomolecular design, dedicated to developing and institutionalizing cutting-edge AI and structure-based design technologies to accelerate innovation within Flagship and across its portfolio.
Prior to joining Flagship, Andrew spent fifteen years with Arzeda, a spinout of David Baker’s laboratory applying computational enzyme and protein design to the industrial biotechnology sector. As Arzeda’s first employee, Andrew held positions of increasing responsibility and was instrumental in building the company's computational platform, spanning computational protein design, AI & machine learning, compute and data infrastructure & services, and laboratory informatics. Most recently, Andrew served as Arzeda’s Chief Operating Officer, leading company-wide R&D operations for the entire product development pipeline from compute to wetlab.
Andrew was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington, received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Duke University, and his B.S. in Mathematics & B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin.
