Gary Sutton

Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Pioneering Medicines

Gary joined Pioneering Medicines in 2020 to lead our partnering strategy and execution as well as other corporate development activities. He oversees all aspects of the partnering process for both collaborations within the Flagship ecosystem and with potential external industry partners.

An accomplished life-sciences corporate development and legal expert, Gary spent 16 years at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) where he was most recently Global Head, Transactions and Negotiations. In this role, he led a team responsible for the structuring, negotiation, and execution of all business development transactions covering all disease areas for the global research division of Novartis and was also responsible for all NIBR out-licensing activities.

Prior to this, he was Executive Director and Associate General Counsel for NIBR, where he was a key negotiation deal team leader for global strategic transactions across a diverse range of R&D collaborations, licenses, M&A, venture fund participations, and strategic equity investments. He also oversaw outside counsel activities and provided counsel and strategic advice to executive management and various line functions on transactions, contract law, commercial law, general corporate matters, and regulatory issues.

Gary earned his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law and his B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University.
