Senior Director, Explorations and Clinical Development, Pioneering Medicines
Lauge Farnaes, M.D. is Flagship Pioneering's Senior Director, Explorations and Clinical Development of Pioneering Medicines. He is responsible for supporting opportunities with Flagship platform companies and external strategic partners to advance Pioneering Medicines’ portfolio of therapeutics programs. He also contributes to the strategic clinical development of Pioneering Medicines’ portfolio—from conceiving medicine concepts to developing assets through to human proof-of-concept.
Lauge is a trained pediatric hematologist-oncologist and pediatric infectious disease physician who brings strong clinical experience as well as expertise in genetic disorders, infectious disease detection, and nucleic acid-based diagnostics to this role.
Prior to joining Pioneering Medicines, Lauge was Head of Medical and Scientific Affairs at IDbyDNA, an infectious disease diagnostics start up, where he focused on the clinical outcomes and health economics of advanced genetic testing. Prior to this, he was the Assistant Medical Director at the Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine, where he pioneered the use of rapid whole genome sequencing to diagnose rare genetic disorders in critically ill children.
Lauge received his M.D. from the University of California San Diego, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Oceanography, M.S. in Biology, B.S. in Biochemistry, and B.A. in Anthropology.
